Calgary Thunderbird Club Cruises to Black Diamond, AB

July 31, 2005.

On July 31st, club members, Dale Lee, Larry & Gladys Lee, Ron Paliwoda & Barb Edy, Jeff & Gary Staniloff, Peter & Tish Dziuba, Ken Seiferling, Dave Spencer and myself, assembled at the Legion for a cruise to Black Diamond and Marv's Classic Soda Shop.  It was a great day for a cruise albeit a bit warm (I remember spending a lot of time checking the New Yorker's temperature gauge).  We had a beautiful cruise through the scenic foothills and everyone enjoyed the drive.  Marv's was quite busy, not surprising as Black Diamond was even hotter than Calgary.  Ice cream seemed the order of the day.  Everyone had a blast looking through the memorabilia and antiques that fill the back of Marv's shop.  Dale & I fired up the one-man-band-player piano as Marv & crew served up lunch & ice cream snacks.  There were also treasures to be found.  Peter found an old table hockey game which he snapped up for ten bucks and Dale found a hand-made guitar to add to his collection.  Some club members gathered on the front porch to enjoy the shade and watch the traffic go by.  Soon it was time to head out for home via Bragg Creek.  Ron and Barb graciously invited us all back to their place for a barbeque.  Burgers and Corn on the cob!  Geoff & Pamela Spriggs and Steve & Maggie Saunders joined us there for dinner and bevies.  All in all it was a fantastic day.  Thanks to Ron & Barb for their hospitality.  Looking forward to the next cruise.     - Mike Hartley
